Obama and McCain on Gay Marriage
Once again, if you remember, in the beggining of my blog i put up a video on gay
marriage and what the candidates stance was on that, obama is for same sex recognition but is not completely sure about the gay marriage part of it, this is a form of separate but equal that obama is claiming to support. on the other hand, McCain seems to be on a double talk express boat while saying that if people want to have a private ceremony or whatever as he mentions on this video but doesnt belive in gay marriage. is pretty much careless about the issue and doesnt want to deal with it. as he seems to studder on the topic he is against it.
I agree with this person on the topics of Abortion and Gay marriage, i found his comment on you tube.
GRAVSR19 (2 hours ago) Show Hide 0 Marked as spam Reply | Spam I love barack obama. He actually seems to realize that abortion and gay marriage really are not political issues that warrant political action! they are PERSONAL ATTITUDES. If you don't like abortions, don't have one. simple. I don't give a shit if adam marries steve, and neither should you because it doesn't affect your life. What does affect your life are issues like wars, the economy, taxes, welfare, and health care. Vote on those issues, not with things that don't concern you
Meet Jarrett Barrios
Jarret Barrios is the first and only openly gay senator in Massachusets, and openly gay candidate in the senate that is able to pass bills on federal assault and other issues some that may concern gays, he is married and has 2 children with his partner. i know that every state is not ready for gay marriage because we have seen it in our communities and in our states. but would you vote yes or no on a gay candidate who is openly gay and married with children to represent your state. do you think the State of Washington is ready for something as accepting as a gay senator . what are your opinions.
since we didnt discuss any form of gayness in office or government in our class or readings or videos or class discussions, i found it interesting to find this video on youtube of Jarrot Barrios who is not your stereotypical gay guy or at least a representation of what it is to be gay and in politics, i think it gives a different point of view to the public and a way to possibly gain more acceptance when viewing more educated good representation of gays in politics for the society and for states.
Young Lords and The Chicano Movement
The Young Lords was a Puerto Rican Movement that began in NYC. the purpose of the Young Lords was to educate and to care for the community, it provided housing for those in need by occuping churches that were not in use and other buildings and encouraged the Puerto Ricans to stick together. the Young Lords did Theatre for the people to in a way create awareness. much of what they did was similar to what the Chicano Movement did in the Late 1960's and on. the Chicano Movement had similar theatre called Teatro Campesino, and just like the Young Lords, The Chicano Movement made their visibility present by making a change in the community and by creating Marches around the Streets of the Comunidad. Different Groups, Different Looks, Different Areas = Same Struggle.
Between 2 Nations
From the 1st Chapter of our Reading of Between 2 Nations by Michael Jones Correa we read about the differences of ethnic backgrounds of not only Latinos in NY but the difference with Latinos and Whites in NY. in Chapter 1 page 32 talks about how communities of minorities and whites overlap each other but yet never really cross each other. from 1st generation of immigrants, they rather make up their own community of or group rather than join a community or group that is already established in the neighborhood or near by neighborhoods. This i believe creates a different and separation understanding of each group individually. its like joining different organizations when arriving to a new place for example a school. if you dont like or feel unconfortable with other orgs. you will probably make your own org, same with these immigrants and communities. "neighborhoods are more likely to contain multiple communities than to constitute a community itself", (Correa pg 32).
Puerto Rico Act 1993-2007
The Puerto Rico Act is not a new issue in the terms of politics, the last time The Puerto Rico Act was brought up to Congress and shut down was in 1993. Now in the year 2008 this Act comes up again, Why? i dont know, but here is a brief history of Puerto Rico, since 1898 Puerto Rico has been a Common Wealth since the Spanish "American" War. Puerto Rico is considered an "American" U.S. Territory but at the same time it is a self governing country with its own governor its own house and its own senate. the weird thing is that things such as social security and others are controlled by the U.S. as of now, bush is considered chief of state of Puerto Rico but Puerto Rico is not a State of the U.S. now personally i think its kinda lame that a president of the U.S. is chief of another state that is not considered part of the country's states. now the question that citizens and politicians are asking, Is Legislation 2007 ready to make Puerto Rico the 51st state? what do you think.?
